Fiji Airways lures Australians to Tonga and Samoa in Vancouver

It’s going to be an exciting week for South Pacific Fiji Airways. On Friday, he takes off on his first regular flight to VancouverCanada, and today it announced a campaign to lure more Australians across the Pacific to Tonga and Samoa.

With increasing demand from Australia, Fiji Airways has announced that it is adding more services to neighboring islands Tonga and Samoa. New services give Australians more options to travel to these tropical islands, connecting through the Fiji hub Nadi International Airport (NAN) from Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane. Fiji Airways Managing Director and CEO Andre Viljoen said with the peak tourist season approaching, the airline was excited to offer Australians more South Pacific Ocean directions. He told Travel Weekly:

“Flights to Tonga and Samoa are ahead of expectations, with Sydney accounting for the majority of traffic. We’re seeing a spike in demand for flights from Brisbane to Tonga in December and a spike in demand for flights from Melbourne to Samoa in January.”

New services from Nadi include twice weekly night flights to Tonga and three night flights per week Samoa. This is in addition to the current daily flights three times a week to Tonga and four times a week to Samoa. Flightradar24.com data show that these routes typically work with a Boeing 737 MAX 8although an ATR 72-600 is sometimes used. The average flight time for a 737 MAX 8 between Nadi and Tonga is around 1:15 hours and to Samoa is around 1:40 hours.

Fiji has a fleet of 19 aircraft, including six Twin Otter DHC-6-300/400s and three ATR42/72-600 aircraft leased from subsidiary Fiji Link. The balance of the fleet is three airbus A330-200, one A330-300, two A350-900, five Boeing 737 MAX8 and one 737-800.

Fiji Airways knows the way to Canada

Promote new route Nadi – Vancouver International Airport (YVR).Fiji took one of his Airbus A350-900, registered DQ-FAJ, to Vancouver in early August. Flight FJ880 departed Nadi at 19:26 and arrived in Vancouver at 11:15 after a 10:50 hour flight. This A350 flies regularly on routes from Fiji to Los Angeles (LAX), Sydney (SYD) and recently to Hong Kong (HKG).

The scheduled flight, which will start on Friday at 23:15 departure from Nadi, will be operated by the airline Airbus A330-200. The aircraft has a two-class layout with 24 business class seats and 249 economy class seats, which have a pitch of 31-32 inches (79-81 centimeters) in the economy class cabin. Fiji has three A330-200s registered as DQ-FJT, DQ-FJU and DQ-FJV with an average age of around ten years. The service will operate twice a week on Mondays and Fridays and will be welcome news for the 80,000 Fijian diaspora living in Canada.

The good news for those flying Fiji Airways is that the airline has won the APEX Passenger Choice Award 2023 for Best Food & Beverage and Best Seat Comfort in the South Pacific. The airline seems to be particularly proud of its desserts, which include coffee and cinnamon ice cream and nama and toasted coconut ice cream.

Vancouver is Fiji Airways’ 20th direct international destination, joining flights to Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, the United States and many other Pacific destinations.
